7 Ways to Stay Mentally Healthy With Physical Activity

We all want to achieve physical health, but have you ever stopped to think about your mental health? It is important that as we approach physical activity we take into account what it does for our mental well being as well, and it can do wonders.

1. It keeps your mind busy: When it comes to mental health, sometimes we just need to slow things down. Our minds can be very busy and full of thoughts all over the map, therefore we sometimes need to just slow it down a bit. When we engage in physical activity, we keep our minds busy with this as the focus. This helps to replace the bad with some very positive thoughts and is good for us in many ways.

2. It helps you to feel happier: When you exercise, you feel good. Sure there may be physical difficulty or challenges, but you know that you’re doing something good for yourself. You can feel good at the end of a workout that you did something to contribute to a healthy lifestyle, and this in turn is good for your mental health as well as your physical.

3. It allows you to regulate your hormones: Imbalanced our out of whack hormones are often the culprit for just why we feel so down or low. When we exercise, we help to naturally regulate our hormones. Not only is this good for our physical health, but more importantly it’s good for our mental health most especially.

4. It ensures that you look better: When you can look in the mirror and feel good about your reflection, that does something very positive for your mood. When you look good, you feel good—and one of the most important and proven ways to accomplish that is through regular physical activity. Nothing beats it for your appearance and your state of mind!

5. It clears out the stress and tension: If you want to get rid of the stress and the tension that is building up in your shoulders, then go for a workout. Nothing helps to relieve the stress that we are feeling better than physical activity. It’s a very natural energy booster and this all helps to get rid of the stress that has accumulated.

6. It takes us away from the outside world: Sometimes we just need to get away from it all. With the stress and the constraints that our daily life puts on us, it’s no wonder that we feel the need for an escape. A perfect escape from it all is physical activity, and this escape happens to represent something that is very good for our mental well being as well.

7. It allows us to focus on ourselves and our needs: We tend to put so many other people’s needs before our own. When we put a vested interest into ourselves through physical activity, we are taking care of our needs. Though it’s good to care for others, sometimes we just need to take care of ourselves and this is a great way to do so.

Physical activity is good for so many aspects of our being. Though we know it’s good for our weight and our appearance, it can also do wonders for our mental well being as well.
