That’s a disturbing little factoid, but it’s true. Turns out, only one-third of Americans know how much exercise is recommended each day.
The U.S. government urges people to get 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise or 75 minutes of vigorous exercise each week.
To make matters worse, a study of nearly 2,400 people revealed not even 50% of Americans meet the goal.
Reporting in the journal Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, researchers say its important people are aware of how much exercise is needed if we are to improve public health.
Experts insist the current U.S. recommendation for exercise could help cut rates of heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and other chronic diseases, which in turn would help take strain off America’s overburdened healthcare system.
Researchers say one explanation why current methods of getting the message out on physical activity has failed is because people are hit with too many different recommendations and it becomes to confusing to pick the right one.
I think at the end of the day everyone knows to put one leg in front of the other really fast and gym class should have told you to do it as often as possible.
